Now I am at a blind end! My book got published last month and I am not knowing how it's going for one thing and second I am asking all I know to patronise the book but I don't know who's hearing. It came to me as a manuscript in Tamil, written by an ordinary electrician who had written an extraordinary memoirs of his life and work experiences, ranging from his living with gypsies to his terrible school master to dinner with afghan families to laying electrical cables in war-ridden Iran and Iraq. He speaks of his work at lighthouses during a raging storm and the unprecedented events that took place in his petty village in interior Southern India in the year when the Skylab was to crash on to the Earth. These to name a few, with 80 short and interesting stories in toto. Some are humorous, some tearjerkers and some just fascinating and beyond imagination when he talks of tribals and their lifestyles in remote habitations in jungles where transport has not yet come and the goatpath(called Aatuppadhai) and streampath are the only modes to go from one place to the other.
Now, the book costs only 23$ and that to the friends living abroad is like spending 23Rs., an amount which just ought to be spent on a different kind of book like this. I just loved translating it for the sheer pleasure that it gave me. DO GIVE THE BOOK A TRY AND DO SPREAD THE MESSAGE!
- hello friends and fellow desimahilas! Is anyone listening?
